Pat Williams and his teammates celebrate a Big South Conference title.
The Coastal Carolina football secured its third post-season berth in the program's history and won its fifth Big South championship with a 41-20 win over Charleston Southern on Saturday at Brooks Stadium. Coastal Carolina will learn its opponent in the FCS playoffs on Sunday afternoon. Coastal raced out to a 21-0 lead on short TD runs by Lorenzo Taliaferro, Aramis Hillary and Jeremy Height. The Chanticleers took a 21-7 lead in the locker room. Senior Marcus Whitener added a pair of short TD runs in the second half in a comfortable victory.
The day started with Liberty beating VMI 33-14. The Chanticleers victory coupled with the Flames triumph created a three way tie atop the Big South Standings with Stony Brook, Liberty and Coastal Carolina. The Chanticleers won the tiebreaker to earn the Big South's automatic bid. For Coastal Carolina, it is the school's fifth Big South Championship on the gridiron. Coastal has won two outright Big South titles (2004 and 2006) and has now shared the Big South championship three times (2005, 2010, 2012).
Aramis Hillary had 14 carries for 155 yards and a score and was 12 of 22 for 102 yards passing. Coastal Carolina finishes the regular season on a five game win streak and stands at 7-4.
