Representing the Minister for Sport and Recreation, Hugh Delahunty, Mr Drum joined water-skiers from the Bridgewater Ski Club to launch the new platform featuring ramps that provide easier access for people of all abilities to take part in water sports on the popular Loddon River.
?Local sport plays an important role in not only bringing people together, which is why we?re working hard to deliver great facilities so more residents can participate in the sports they love,? Mr Drum said.
?Having quality accessible sports facilities is central to encouraging more Victorians to get more active, more often, which is a top priority for this Government.
?That?s why we were proud to invest just over $59,000 in the Bridgewater Water Sports Platform from the 2010/2011 Community Facility Funding Program.
?Our investment ensures local water venues like the Loddon River continue to be an important community asset that everyone can enjoy for many years to come,? he said.
Mr Drum said the new facility compliments the town?s fishing pier, swimming jetty and walking tracks and provides an important base for the club to expand local water ski and wake board development programs to include more people.
?With over 500 people expected to use this platform over the summer months, the facility is set to become a focal point for the town?s water sports,? Mr Drum said.
?I?d like to thank Loddon Shire Council for contributing just over $14,000 and the Federal Government for its $40,000 contribution towards the project.
?This has been a team effort and it?s fantastic to see this important project come to fruition.
?The project was a result of listening to local people and working collaboratively with each of our project partners,? he said.
