Samsung announced today that it will launch several pop-up stores in London in order to showcase its new flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S III.
The first two stores, dubbed Samsung Mobile PINs, will open at Westfield Shepherd's Bush and at Old Spitalfields Market on May 29 - the day the Galaxy S III makes its European debut. Over the summer, two more PINs will launch in Hyde Park and within the Olympic Park.
"As the name PIN suggests, the conceptual idea is a moving landmark experience like a pinpoint on a map," Samsung said in a blog post.
Shoppers will get to try out the new Galaxy S III smartphone, as well as other Samsung devices and apps. "We welcome everyone to this dynamic and energetic place to fully experience and enjoy all the core features of Samsung mobile products," Younghee Lee, senior vice president and head of global marketing for Samsung Mobile, said in a statement.
Samsung said its Mobile PIN stores will be glass structures "specially engineered to capture the imagination, whilst being mobile enough to easily change location. One of the more prominent characteristics of the PIN is its wall, built with a two-way customized mirrored glass."
The announcement comes several weeks after Samsung and Visa teamed up for a limited-edition Galaxy S III that will be available to athletes and trialists competing in this summer's Olympic games.
Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S III during a London press event earlier this month. It boasts a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED 1,280-by-720 display, and runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It features an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and 1.9-megapixel front-facing one.
The device is expected to hit the U.S. market sometime this summer, though carriers and release dates have not yet been announced. Those eager to get their hands on one, however, can pre-order an unlocked version of the Galaxy S III - for a hefty $800 price tag.
