When confronted with adverse situations such as the loss of a loved one, some people never fully recover from the pain. Others, the majority, pull through and experiment how the intensity of negative emotions (e.g. anxiety, depression) grows dimmer with time until they adapt to the new situation. A third group is made up of individuals whose adversities have made them grow personally and whose life takes on new meaning, making them feel stronger than before.

Researchers at the Basic Psychology Unit at Universitat Autnoma de Barcelona analysed the responses of 254 students from the Faculty of Psychology in different questionnaires. The purpose was to evaluate their level of satisfaction with life and find connections between their resilience and their capacity of emotional recovery, one of the components of emotional intelligence which consists in the ability to control one's emotions and those of others.

Research data shows that students who are more resilient, 20% of those surveyed, are more satisfied with their lives and are also those who believe they have control over their emotions and their state of mind. Resilience therefore has a positive prediction effect on the level of satisfaction with one's life.

"Some of the characteristics of being resilient can be worked on and improved, such as self-esteem and being able to regulate one's emotions. Learning these techniques can offer people the resources needed to help them adapt and improve their quality of life", explains Dr Joaqun T Limonero, professor of the UAB Research Group on Stress and Health at UAB and coordinator of the research.

In a system 1,500 light years away from us, there may be a world so hot that its surface could have started evaporating, forming a tail of gas and dust escaping into space. Worlds end usually because their parent stars consume them, or because they collide into another planet or heavenly bodies like?asteroids. But an evaporating planet that's dying an extremely slow death is something new to scientists.

Scientists identified the existence of the curious planet from the strange way its dusty tail affects the light coming from its star, as detected by?NASA's Kepler telescope.?Data from Kepler suggests that the planet is a?Mercury-size world orbiting a sun smaller and cooler than ours. It's so close to its star that it makes a complete orbit in less than 16 Earth hours, giving it an infernal surface temperature of 3,300 degrees Fahrenheit. Think of it as a world made of magma with a tail of dust, similar to a?comet.

Just the fact that Kepler was able to identify something as small as Mercury located thousands of light years away indicates that we're getting better at?exoplanet hunting. However, more research is needed to confirm whether what was discovered is actually a dying planet or something else. If it's truly the former, then it still has roughly 200 million years left before it completely vanishes.

How long will it take before I make a real income?...Good questions. I asked these or similar questions when I was interested in building a career with my public speaking talent. Here's what I found: you can employ practical planning and action...but using affirmations will help you yield greater results when combined (with planning and action).

So, ask yourself what you REALLY want. Do you want to make six figures? Want to have a career speaking to college students, elementary school students, elderly people? Want to talk to people in prisons, hospitals, or business meetings? Find out what people you feel most comfortable talking to or who needs to hear your message the most.

Figure out what you want to be paid, and what you really want your work life to be like. Travelling? Few hours? Speaking on video to people?

Once you have a clear idea about who you want to talk to, what you want to be paid, and what you want your work hours to be like, where, and how often, then you can begin constructing your affirmations.

Affirmations need to be clear, in present tense, and cultivate a feeling or emotion when said. They should also be said with conviction. You are basically saying a statement to convince your mind of the reality you want to have.

Be sure to say your affirmations often, whenever you can. The best time to say them is when you are waking up and as you are falling asleep... but also as often as possible. You can repeat your affirmations while you're driving, while you're in the shower, or getting dressed...any time that you are alone and have time, try to remember to use that time wisely to say your affirmations. Also, saying them while you look yourself in the eyes in a mirror is very powerful.

So, here's some examples of great affirmations you can use, but watch how they are written so you can customize your own affirmations based on what you want in a speaking career.
